Will we ever see the sequel to ‘Call Me By Your Name’? It is becoming more and more unlikely

The Armie Hammer scandal and Luca Guadagnino’s troubled schedule point to this.

In 2017 Call Me By Your Name was a small phenomenon among critics and the public, leading to several Oscar nominations that year and a growing cult within the LGTB collective. Since within the literary field it soon had a sequel ( Find me, also written by André Aciman ), it was logical to expect that it would also jump into the cinema, and Luca Guadagnino was shown by the work from the beginning. The director of Suspiria said in the following months that he would count on the return of Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Esther Garrellfor the cast of the second part, but in March 2020 announced that the coronavirus pandemic had frozen the development of Find Me until further notice.

Since then we have not had updates on the status of the project, but we have had updates on Guadagnino’s agenda that did not stop accumulating titles. Once the series We Are Who We Are premiered on HBO, the filmmaker has been associated with works such as a new adaptation of Lord of the Flies written by Patrick Ness ( A monster is coming to see me ), a biopic of the famous pimp Scotty Bowers with a script by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, a revival of Return to Brideshead … as well as a remake of Scarface written by the Coen brothers and an adaptation of the novel Bones & All by Camille DeAngelis. It is this last project that has received priority on its agenda, as stated by Deadline.

Call Me By Your Name-1

Bones & All is already in pre-production and has an impressive cast led by Taylor Russell were the names of Mark Rylance, André Holland, Jessica Harper, Chloë Sevigny, Francesca Scorsese (yes, the daughter of Martin Scorsese ), David Gordon Green, and, returning to work with him after Call Me By Your Name, the aforementioned Chalamet, and Stuhlbarg. The film narrates the journey that a young woman (Russell) undertakes through the United States trying to understand why her father used to later murder and eat all those people who ever loved him. A very promising synopsis that has been imposed on the sequel to Call Me By Your Name among Guadagnino’s upcoming works.

Does this mean that Find Me has been canceled? Guadagnino does not close the door completely, but things are looking bad. “The truth is that my heart is still there. But I’m working on this movie, and I hope to get on with Scarface soon, and I have a lot of projects so I’m going to focus on this part of the Atlantic and the films that are still to be made. ” Bones & All is written by David Kajnagich, who already worked with Guadagnino in Blinded by the sun and the remake of Suspiria, and once it opens it is possible that the sequel to Call Me By Your Name has definitely been in limbo the production.

Call Me By Your Name

And not only because of the list of projects in front of him but because of what happened with Hammer in recent months. The interpreter’s career is badly damaged after leaks that pointed to shady sexual fetishes and a Los Angeles police investigation against him based on the accusations of several women for sexual abuse. As a consequence, Hammer has abandoned several projects ( Shotgun Wedding or The Offer, where he has already been replaced by Miles Teller ), although in an indeterminate future Disney has yet to release Death on the Nile, which the actor shot back in 2019.

As for Call Me By Your Name co-star Timothée Chalamet, in addition to Bones & All, he has yet to star in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel as Willy Wonka, not to mention the likely second part of Dune. . All of which leads us to say goodbye to Elio and Oliver, at least for a long time.
